Waitrose Malmesbury

When Waitrose Malmesbury was being planned it was decided to leave a significant area of the site for the benefit of wildlife.planting

Working with external consultants and advisors such as Mark Avery and Tony Juniper, a suitable landscape scheme was agreed and Waitrose made contact with the Malmesbury Rivers Valley Trust who agreed to manage the site, with Waitrose, as part of the management of their existing nature reserves in the area.

At completion the site comprises a new store and service yard, a car park and vehicular, pedestrian and cycle access with landscaped grounds designed to benefit local swift towerwildlife. The area for wildlife is approximately 0.5 ha of wildflower and tree and shrub planting, with the inclusion of various bird boxes and a specially commissioned swift tower.

The Malmesbury Rivers Valley Trust maintain the site and provide valuable local advice to the branch manager and other Waitrose teams who provide resources for the Trust to manage the site.
