Community is important to Waitrose, which is why the Waitrose Way has a long-running initiative to donate money, every month, to local causes based on the opinions of shoppers. This initiative has seen Waitrose £00,000s for good causes but the business also want to explore how the store itself could serve the community.
When Waitrose in Milngavie (near Glasgow) opened in 2015 it was designed with a dedicated community room, which customers and local groups can book free-of-charge to hold meetings, classes and small events.
Since opening in June 2015, over 60 different organisations have usedthe space including NCT groups, language, dance and music classes. Plans to provide community rooms in future new branches are in place. John Lewis’s recent Birmingham branch also provides a community space which has proven equally as popular.
